VIENNA - Austrian Justice Ministry was examining the dossier of Alaattin Cakici and would make the final decision on his extradition to Turkey, Vienna state court spokesman Friedrich Forsthuber said on Wednesday.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Forsthuber recalled that judge Peter Seda decided that there was no problem regarding the extradition of Cakici to Turkey.
Forsthuber noted that after Cakici said that he abandoned his legal objection to the (extradition) decision, the dossier was sent to the Justice Ministry. Forsthuber added that Austrian Justice Minister Karin Miklautsch would make the final decision whether Cakici would be extradited to Turkey.
Vienna state court decided on Monday to extradite Cakici, a member of an organized crime organization, to Turkey.
Underworld boss Cakici, 51, was captured in his car on a highway near the southern Austrian city of Graz on July 14th, 2004 in a joint operation by the Turkish intelligence officers and Austrian police. He has been staying in a cell at the Vienna State Court's 'unit for criminals who are going to be extradited'.
He was released from prison in Turkey in 2002 after staying behind bars for inciting an attack on a journalist and for ''forming and directing a gang with the aim to commit crimes''.
However, he fled Turkey in May 2004 and Interpol issued an international warrant for him as he was wanted for corruption, extortion and organized crime charges.
