ATHENS - Turkey-European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Commission members said that Turkey did not want to encounter a different treatment in its EU process apart from practices that have been carried out so far.
Commission members; Aydin Dumanoglu, Vahit Kirisci and Onur Oymen held a press conference at the Turkish Embassy in Athens on Tuesday.
They said that they once again saw Greece's support to Turkey's EU process during their meetings in Athens, noting that Turkey appreciated this support.
Stating that they thought that Turkey did its ''homework'' about fulfillment of the Copenhagen criteria, commission members stressed that Turkey should be treated fairly.
Regarding French President Jacques Chirac's initiative to amend the constitution that would cause Turkey's membership to be brought to the referendum, commission members stated that this method did not happen for any candidate country before. Members said that they hoped Chirac would reconsider his attitude.
Underlining that Turkey's EU target was common goal of Turkish people and ruling and opposition parties, they said that Turkey considered EU an area of cooperation, not competition.
Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission members noted that if EU member countries foresaw contribution of Turkey to the EU, member countries would invite Turkey to the Union.
