TORONTO, Oct 5 (AFP) - The Jerusalem Post has inflated its circulation figures, the daily's owner, Hollinger International, confirmed Tuesday.
"At The Jerusalem Post, representatives of the newspaper's advertising and marketing areas misrepresented the circulation figures to advertisers," said Hollinger International, which has been beset by scandal.
The publishing group, which owns London's Telegraph newspapers, audited the books after removing magnate Conrad Black from its management. The group reported in June that the Chicago Sun-Times had also inflated its circulation numbers, but that the practice had stopped.
Hollinger International is said to have set aside 27 million dollars US to repay Chicago Sun-Times advertisers.
Hollinger International said that bloated circulation reports at The Jerusalem Post and two other US newspapers, The Daily Southtown and The Star, were not systematic and would not have an impact on the group.
Since Hollinger International accused Conrad Black of having bilked the company, the sides have filed multiple lawsuits this year.
The Canadian-born British magnate holds, through his company in Toronto, Hollinger Inc., about 30 of Hollinger International's shares and 70 percent of the voting rights.
