ANKARA - New Turkey Party (YTP) led by former Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem on Monday called for convention of party congress in an extraordinary meeting to decide on unification with the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
A statement by the YTP said that senior officials of the party agreed with contents of a letter that YTP leader Ismail Cem presented to CHP leader Deniz Baykal, suggesting CHP-YTP unification and called for convention of the party congress in an extraordinary session as soon as possible to decide to join the CHP.
The statement added that YTP Secretariat General was authorized to make necessary preparations for the extraordinary congress.
