HERE'S THE STATEMENT TURKEY IS EXPECTING
''The European Union (EU) recommends that since Turkey has met political criteria sufficiently, full membership talks can start.'' Two days before October 6th, the date EU Commission will publish Progress Report, it has become definite that the EU Commission made its decision to start entry talks with Turkey.
INFLATION SINGLE DIGIT: 9 PERCENT
The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced yesterday that Turkey's monthly inflation rose by 1.85 percent in wholesale prices and by 0.94 percent in consumer prices in September of 2004. As of September 2004, annual inflation became 12.50 percent in wholesale prices and 9 percent in consumer prices.

LEFT UNITED AGAIN
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal and New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem decided to unite their parties. YTP will dissolve itself and join CHP. Upon proposal of Baykal to unite the parties, YTP administration visited CHP Headquarters yesterday. Cem told in the letter he gave to Baykal that he was honored with the proposal and he would present proposal of CHP to authorized organs of his party.
GUL: DIALOGUE IS NECESSARY
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul delivered a speech at the international symposium on ''Civilization and Harmony: Values and Mechanisms of the Global Order'' which was held under the cancelled Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC)-European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers Meeting Joint Forum. Gul said, ''dialogue is our biggest hope. Only by this way we can strengthen international values and restore a peaceful, sustainable and just future.''

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was awarded with ''Quadriga'' Prize in Germany which is dedicated to people who ''break the walls and exceed the borders by their courage''. Erdogan received his prize from German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
RENTS INCREASE INFLATION RATE
Increase in prices of education and rents showed that concerns of Central Bank are right. VICTORIOUS ATMOSPHERE IN GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE
Turkey's including Greek Cypriot side in Customs Union Agreement together with the new members of the European Union (EU) created a victorious atmosphere in Greek Cypriot side. Greek Cypriot press said it is an important diplomatic victory and defended that following the agreement, there will be political recognition.

Regarding Turkey's starting membership talks with the European Union (EU), one of these three suggestions will be made to the EU Council: ''we suggest talks to start without delay'', ''talks can start without delay'', ''if the Council approves too, talks shall start without delay''.
ERDOGAN: SERIOUSNESS IS NECESSARY
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during his visit to Berlin, ''we have completed every required condition to start membership talks. You shall keep the promise you gave in Copenhagen. I am expecting seriousness from my interlocutors.'' Meanwhile, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said, ''we have given promises to Turkey for 40 years. Promises should be kept in international policies.''

When attacks increased against trucks which are carrying goods to U.S. forces in Iraq, Turkish truck drivers decided not to go to Iraq.
U.S. FIRM DEMANDS TO PROTECT TURKISH CONVOYS IN IRAQ
A private U.S. security firm proposed Turkish Foreign Ministry to provide security of Turkish trucks which will go to Iraq. When the firm said U.S. government would provide the heavy weapons, people claimed that the firm is supported by the government.
