Turkey's foreign minister opposes special conditions for Turkey in EU report

ANKARA, Oct 4 (AFP) - Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul on Monday said there should be no "special conditions" set for Turkey in a European Commission progress report on whether the EU should embark on membership negotiations with Ankara.
"There can be no special conditions for Turkey, -- that is out of the question," Gul said, quoted by the Anatolia news agency.
Gul was reacting to media reports that the crucial report, due Wednesday, could include clauses interrupting the negotiations at any time.
The French newspaper Le Figaro reported Monday that, the report would include a line saying: "At any point, if the Commission thinks the progress of reforms in Turkey is compromised, (EU governments) can decide to suspend or to stop accession negotiations."
