LONDON (AFP) - European stock markets jumped out the blocks in early trading, with London trading at fresh two-year high points after Wall Street finished on a strong note last week.
The London FTSE 100 index gained 0.69 percent to 4,691.90 points, the Frankfurt DAX rose 1.30 percent to 4,047.03 points and the Paris CAC 40 climbed 0.91 percent to 3,763.94.
The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of leading eurozone shares advanced 1.05 percent to 2,825.48 points.
The euro stood at 1.2373 dollars.
The FTSE 100 closed at a two-year high point on Friday of 4,659.6 points, lifted by financial stocks.
In trading on Monday, British energy giant BP rose 0.74 percent to 544 pence after it said overall production of its oil products during the third quarter was expected to rise by 11 percent from the equivalent figure last year.
Manchester United won 0.68 percent to 259 pence after weekend reports that American multi-millionaire Malcolm Glazer was poised to launch a takeover bid for the English football giants.
In the United States, Wall Street shares closed with a rally on Friday, shrugging off a fresh surge in oil prices, which saw the New York contract closing above 50 dollars per barrel for the first time.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.11 percent at 10,192.65 points and the tech-laden Nasdaq composite rallied 2.39 percent to 1,942.20.
The broad-market Standard and Poor's 500 index advanced 1.52 percent to 1,131.50 points.
In Asia, Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei-225 index closed 2.68 percent higher at 11,279.63 points on Monday, with the tech sector supported by gains on Wall Street, dealers said.
Hong Kong's key Hang Seng Index added 1.82 percent on fresh optimism about the outlook for the global economy after the weekend G7 meeting and Wall Street's gains Friday, dealers said.
