KHARTOUM, Oct 2 (AFP) - Iranian President Mohammed Khatami is due to begin a a three-day state visit to Sudan on Monday for talks with his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Beshir, the official SUNA news agency reported Saturday.
The agency quoted Iran's ambassador to Khartoum Hameid Bayat as saying the visit would strengthen bilateral ties in all fields with Khatami meeting senior government officials, scientists, intellectuals and religious leaders.
Khatami is due to deliver a speech at the National Assembly, said the ambassador adding that commercial, economic, cultural and political agreements would be concluded between the two countries during the visit.
Khatami's stay coincides with British Prime Minister Tony Blair's brief visit to Khartoum on Wednesday for talks with Beshir and Vice President Ali Osman Taha on the security and humanitarian situation in strife-torn Darfur.
