Russia's Putin to take part in Auschwitz anniversary

WARSAW, Sept 30 (AFP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is to take part in ceremonies marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz by the Soviet army, Poland's president said on Thursday.
"In January President Putin will come to the ceremonies marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz camp," President Aleksander Kwasniewski said in a television interview.
Between 1940 and 1945 over one million men, women and children -- most of them Jews -- perished in horrific circumstances at Auschwitz, one of the most infamous of World War II concentration camps.
The camp, liberated on January 27, 1945, by the Red Army, has since become a symbol of the Holocaust.
