BERLIN, Sept 30 (AFP) - Germany's former 400m European champion Grit Breuer is in hot water after she was unavailable to take a a random drugs test on Wednesday, German anti-doping agency NADA confirmed on Thursday.
Breuer is on holiday in Greece with athletics coach Thomas Springstein, suspended by his club SC Magdeburg on Thursday, after drugs were reportedly found at his house, but failed to notify NADA of her whereabouts.
"That goes against doping guidelines and has consequences," explained NADA spokesman Matthias Blatt.
"Athletes have to let the association know if they are away from their residence for more than three days.
It is the second time Breuer and Springstein have been involved in a drugs scandal.
Breuer and her East German compatriot Katrin Krabbe, both coached by Springstein, were suspended for two years for using the banned steroid clenbuterol in 1992.
Krabbe won the 100m and 200m world titles in 1991 while Breuer won the 1990 European title at 400 metres.
Meanwhile, Germany's 800m Olympic champion from Sydney, Nils Schumann, announced Thursday he will no longer work with Springstein in the wake of the drugs revelations.
