California hit by 6.0 quake, no injuries reported

LOS ANGELES, Sept 28 (AFP) - A wave of earthquakes measuring up to 6.0 the Richter scale struck central California on Tuesday, but no immediate damage or injuries were reported, Seismic monitors said.
The biggest temblor struck 17.6 kilometers (11 miles) south of the town of Parkfield at 10:15 am (1715 GMT), the US Geolgical Survey said, updating its earlier estimate of a 5.9 magnitude temblor.
The shaker was followed four minutes later by a second shaker measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, which was centered five miles from Parkfield, the quake monitors said.
At least 31 aftershocks measuring between 4.7 and 3.6 on the Richter scale shook the region along the golden state`s notorious San Andreas fault over the following 30 minutes, the USGS said.
Some of quakes being felt as far afield as San Francisco, which lies 350 kilometers (220 miles) to the northwest of Parkfield.
