LANDOVER, United States (AFP) - Runningback Richie Anderson tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Terry Glenn in the fourth quarter as Dallas beat the Washington Redskins 21-18 in a National Football League matchup.
Washington had closed to within 14-10 with 45 seconds left in the third quarter on a one-yard scoring toss from Mark Brunell to Rod Gardner.
But Vinny Testaverde engineered a scintillating five-play drive that ended in Anderson's first career touchdown pass.
Glenn had to dive to snare the pass. Washington asked for a review of the play, which was upheld and cost the Redskins a valuable timeout.
The loss of a timeout proved critical when Brunell fed Gardner with a 15-yard touchdown toss with 4:30 to go.
Washington got the ball back and in the final minute of regulation and had a potential game-tying run stall at the Dallas 21 line.
The Redskins have dropped 13 of the last 14 meetings with the Cowbodys.
Testaverde completed 14-of-29 passes for 214 yards and a score - his 254th all-time, tying Dan Fouts for 10th place.
Dallas did not have a player run for more than 20 yards and no one caught more than three passes.
Brunell was 25-for-43 for 325 yards and two scores.
Clinton Portis ran 23 times for 94 yards and caught three passes for 37 yards.
Dallas capitalizing on a couple of controversial calls to score with 4:01 to go in the opening quarter.
Eddie George, who had his NFL-record of 130 straight starts at running back snapped when Dallas opened the game with an empty backfield, barged in for a 7-0 lead.
