``WE ARE GOING TO IRAN WITH 500 BUSINESSMEN``
When Iranian conservatives blocked two Turkish companies` investments in Iran, Iranian President Mohammad Khatami delayed his official visit to Turkey scheduled to take place on Monday. Despite these developments, Turkish businessmen will leave for Iran tomorrow evening. International Tehran Industry Fair will open its doors to visitors on Wednesday. Turkish businessmen will compete with their European rivals at the fair. 500 Turkish businessmen and 230 companies will attend the fair.
ERDOGAN: ``WE BELIEVE TURKEY WILL CONTRIBUTE TO EU``
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his Justice and Development Party (AK Party) displayed extreme efforts which no government in Turkey had exerted before, to reach the target of becoming a full member of the European Union (EU). Speaking at AK Party Central Executive Board meeting in Kizilcahamam near Ankara, he emphasized that they did not act only by considering the advantages which EU full membership will bring to Turkey. Erdogan said, ``we believe that Turkey will contribute and add a dynamism to Europe with its civilization and potential. We rely on Turkey and our people. This is a mutual confidence.``

Ericsson President and Chief Executive Officer Carl Henric Svanberg said that Ericsson mobility made great investments in Turkey, stating that they would continue to invest in Turkey. Noting that Turkey would grow further with its young population and dynamic market.
BURDEN OF RAISE IN SALARY OF CIVIL SERVANTS IS 15 QUADRILLION TL
Sami Evren, the chairman of the Confederation of Public Workers Trade Unions, said that they did not demand 72 quadrillion Turkish liras (TL) as State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said, adding that their demand would bring a burden of 15 quadrillion on the budget.

ERDOGAN: ``ARTIFICIAL TENSIONS SHOULD BE ELIMINATED``
``The main goal of politics in Turkey is to overcome artificial tension between the state and society,`` Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. Speaking at Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Central Executive Board meeting in Kizilcahamam, Erdogan said, ``our main aim is to create a climate of permanent political stability within the country. All of us should contribute to this goal because it is impossible for Turkey to return to coalition governments of the past.``
CHP TO BRING TCK TO CONSTITUTIONAL COURT
Republican People`s Party (CHP) will apply to the Constitutional Court for annulment of amendments which were made to the article on environmental pollution of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).

UNIVERSITIES HAVE PROBLEMS
New academic year started in universities in Turkey with problems. A group of students from Ankara University held a demonstration by chanting slogans, ``We Will Destroy YOK (Higher Education Board).`` Ankara University Rector Nusret Aras said that they had many problems including financial and managerial problems.
CIVIL SERVANTS: ``GOVERNMENT DOES NOT TELL TRUTH``
The Confederation of Public Workers Trade Unions (KESK) and Public Workers Trade Union (Kamu-Sen) chairmen said that they did not take a backward step on their demand that the minimum salary of civil servants should be 840 million Turkish liras. They stressed that their demand was reflected to public opinion wrongly.

Land Forces Commander Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said that Ataturk, the Founder of Turkish Republic, did not leave any dogmatic inheritance to the country, adding that Ataturk`s inheritance was science and reason. Ufuk Uyan, the president of Union of Special Finance Houses and chief executive of Kuwait Turkish Evkaf Finance House, said that after September 11th, people started to search for new ports for their investments, adding that Islamic finance was showing more interest in Turkey now.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey would have brighter days soon. Stating that they were opening factories in many cities of the country, Erdogan said that Turkish government solved many problems of the country. He added that they reduced inflation rate to one digit and Turkish economy began to grow.
THERE IS NO MAD COW DISEASE IN TURKEY
Turkish Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Sami Guclu said that there was no mad cow disease in Turkey, since the country did not import livestock from other countries.

Stating that international public opinion focused on Iraq, Cetin said that Iraq should not cause people to forget Afghanistan.

11.8 MILLION TOURISTS VISIT TURKEY
The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey in August 2004 increased by 11.6 percent to 2.5 million. State Institute of Statistics said that a total of 11.8 million foreign tourists visited the country between January and August 2004.
