BAGHDAD, Sept 27 (AFP) - A US soldier was killed in an attack near the town of Balad, north of Baghdad, Monday while another died in a traffic accident in the same area, the US military said.
A statement explained that a US vehicle overturned trying to avoid a truck on the road and that one of the two soldiers wounded in the accident later died of his injuries.
The other soldier was killed when a patrol returning from the site of the crash was attacked by insurgents, the statement said.
Based on Pentagon figures, the latest deaths bring to 1,046 the number of US troops killed in Iraq since last year's invasion.
