Twenty-one Turkish Drivers Detained In Syria For Over-the-limit Diesel

ANKARA, Sept 27 (AFP) - Syrian customs officials have detained 21 Turkish truck drivers in the northern city of Aleppo after discovering more diesel than allowed in their vehicles, a Turkish diplomat said Monday.
Turkey's consul general in Aleppo, Hulusi Kilic, told the Anatolia news agency that the drivers, on their way to Turkey via Syria after taking cargo to Iraq, were found to have more than the 200 liters (52 gallons) of diesel allowed per truck by Syrian law.
Kilic said the incident was not political and that the drivers would probably be allowed to return home after appearing in court and paying a fine.
