MIAMI, Sept 26 (AFP) - Hurricane Jeanne was blamed for at least two deaths in Florida, with three other fatalities possibly linked to the storm that pummeled Florida's southeastern coast Sunday.
In the small town of Micco in southeastern Florida, a man was found lying in the water in a flooded house where he had been partying as the storm slammed ashore, local media said.
The Florida Today paper also said a man in nearby Palm Bay apparently drove his car into a canal Saturday morning, when the storm was still raging hours after making landfall during the night.
Local television also reported that two people died when their vehicle plunged into a lake in Fort Lauderdale, which experienced some heavy winds and rain but was spared the worse of the storm.
In Miami, which also experienced stormy conditions but was spared hurricane-force winds, one man was found dead, electrocuted by a downed power line, police said.
The fate of a surfer reported missing in heavy surf in Miami Beach Saturday was unknown after the US Coast Guard suspended their search once winds became too strong to fly helicopters.
