MIAMI, Florida, Sept 25 (AFP) - The Miami Dolphins have postponed their National Football League home game against Pittsburgh, scheduled for Sunday afternoon, as Hurricane Jeanne threatens the east coast of Florida.
"After conferring with local authorities and the NFL, in the best interest of public safety it was decided that under no circumstances will the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers be played on Sunday afternoon," Dolphins president Eddie Jones said in a statement issued Saturday.
"The Commissioner`s office has asked the two teams to consider the largest public safety issues to determine when the game can best be played. A final decision regarding the revised time and date of the game jointly will be made in consultation with the league, the Steelers, and government officials as the hurricane track becomes clearer."
A million people have been ordered to evacuate as Jeanne threatens to become the fourth major storm to hit Florida in six weeks.
Virtually the entire Atlantic coast of Florida was under a hurricane warning, with officials urging residents not to let fatigue or complacency hinder preparations ahead of expected landfall before dawn Sunday.
