Erdogan's Candidate For Parliament Speaker's Office Is Arinc

ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his candidate for the office of Turkish Parliament Speaker was Bulent Arinc.
Erdogan attended a TV program late on Friday.
Answering a question on his candidate for the position of parliament speaker, Erdogan said, ``I cannot tell anything about my friends` candidate for this position. But my candidate is Bulent Arinc (the current parliament speaker).``
In accordance with the Constitution and Parliamentary By-law, the parliament has to elect its new speaker before October 10. MPs will be given a five-day period to apply for candidacy.
In the first two rounds of the vote for the new parliament speaker, two thirds majority (a total of 367 votes) will be required. If the necessary majority of votes cannot be reached in the first two rounds, 276 votes will be enough as of the third round for a candidate to be elected speaker.
If the necessary majority cannot be reached also in the third round, two candidates who receive the highest number of votes, will attend the fourth round.
The candidate, who gets the highest number of vote in the fourth round, will become the new speaker of the parliament.
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the modern and secular Republic of Turkey, was the first speaker of parliament.
