ANKARA - Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc called on parliament to convene in an emergency session at 11.00 hrs local time on September 26th, Sunday, in line with the application of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
Holding a news conference, Arinc said on Friday, ``our public opinion has focused on extraordinary meeting of the parliament and the enactment of the draft penal code (TCK).``
``Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan`s meetings with European Commission President Romano Prodi and European Union (EU) Commissioner Guenter Verheugen for Enlargement in Brussels yesterday have very positive impacts both on economy and on the foreign policy,`` he added.
Recalling that the Republican People`s Party (CHP) had made the first application for an emergency session on September 28th, Arýnc said: ``yesterday, the AK Party asked my Office to convene parliament on September 26th to debate three drafts. These are the draft TCK, the draft about the appellate courts to be established in eight regions and the draft about Code of Civil Procedure. Therefore, I call on parliament to convene at 11.00 hrs local time on September 26th at an emergency session.``
Meanwhile, two new arrangements are expected to be made in the draft TCK for reconsideration of Article 125 of the TCK about insult and the Article 184 about illegal constructions.
