NEW YORK - Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who is currently in New York to attend the 59th session of the United Nations General Assembly, said late on Tuesday, ''the article about adultery is the less important article of 348-article draft Turkish Penal Code (TCK).''
Speaking to reporters, Gul said, ''I held a series of bilateral talks in New York. The most important of these talks was the one with Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot. I also met Portuguese Foreign Minister Antonio Monteiro and Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini.''
He recalled that he met his Israeli, Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts, adding, ''during all those meetings, I had the opportunity of explaining Turkey's position and views.''
-EU-OIC FORUM-
Gul told reporters that Turkey had been getting ready to host the Second Forum of the EU and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) between October 4 and 5.
''I invited foreign ministers of the EU-members and of Islamic countries to the forum. I believe that most of them would attend the forum in Istanbul.''
-TCK-
Upon a question about the draft TCK, Gul said, ''actually, the article about adultery is the less important article of 348-article draft TCK. The draft brings individual freedom to the forefront.''
