FARMINGTON, United States (AFP) - Tiger Woods withdrew from the PGA's 84 Lumber Classic, tournament officials announced, with his management team reportedly saying Woods was exhausted after the Ryder Cup.
"While all of us at the 84 Lumber Classic are certainly disappointed that Tiger Woods will not be playing this week, we certainly understand," tournament spokesman Jeff Nobers said.
Second-ranked Woods won twice but lost three times last week at the Ryder Cup, failing in foursomes and four-ball pairings with Phil Mickelson.
The Americans suffered their worst thrashing in 77 years of Ryder Cup history, losing 18 1/2 - 9 1/2 to Europe.
Woods remains scheduled to play next week at Ireland in a World Golf Championships event.
The pull out caps a dismal month for Woods, with the Ryder Cup defeat and the loss of his world number one ranking to Vijay Singh. The Fijian outdueled Woods down the stretch to take the title by winning the Canadian Open.
