BIRMINGHAM (AFP) - England qualified for the Champions Trophy final after beating world champions Australia by six wickets in Tuesday's semi-final here at Edgbaston to end a run of 14 successive defeats against the world champions.
England, set 260 to win, finished on 262 for four with 21 balls to spare.
Andrew Strauss was 52 not out and Paul Collingwood six not out after England captain Michael Vaughan made a one-day international best 86.
Vaughan put on 140 with Marcus Trescothick (81) for the second wicket.
Victory meant England ended the losing run stretching back to 1999.
World Cup holders Australia, who have yet to win the Champions Trophy in the four editions of the tournament since the competition was launched in 1998, made 259 for nine after losing the toss.
Damien Martyn top-scored with 65 and Michael Clarke made 42.
Vaughan, an occasional off-spinner, took an economical two for 42 from 10 overs.
England are now through to their first Champions Trophy final where they will play the winners of Wednesday's Rose Bowl semi-final between Pakistan and West Indies at The Oval on Saturday.
