ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Tuesday that they would ask the Parliament Speaker's Office to convene the parliament at 3.00 p.m. (local time) on September 28th to debate the remaining two articles of the draft Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
Holding a news conference at the CHP headquarters, Baykal said, ''the failure to enact the draft TCK has started a negative tendency towards Turkey. We cannot allow that such a process continue.''
''Turkey should not miss the third opportunity in its European Union (EU) bid. Therefore, we should remove all hesitations on Turkey before October 6th,'' he said.
Baykal added, ''it is possible to change this negative climate by adopting the last two articles of the draft TCK. We have decided to take action to this end. We will ask the Parliament Speaker to convene the parliament at 15.00 on September 28th to debate the remaining two articles.''
Earlier, the EU Commission stated that the entry negotiations between Turkey and the EU could not start unless important parts of the draft TCK were enacted.
Meanwhile, the EU Commission will submit its report about Turkey on October 6th, and make known its recommendations.
