PORT-AU-PRINCE (AFP) - Tropical Storm Jeanne has claimed the lives of at least 75 Haitians, with dozens more unaccounted for, officials from Haiti's Interior Ministry said.
A large area of Haiti was still under water after Jeanne swept Friday across the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which Haiti shares with the Dominican Republic.
Eighty percent of the city of Gonaives, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) north of the Haitian capital, was flooded, according to officials from the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Jeanne, which is expected to remain out at sea over the next few days -- is the latest in a string of deadly storms to slam the Americas.
