About 30 Dead In Haiti After Storm Jeanne

PORT-AU-PRINCE (AFP) - About 30 people have lost their live in Haiti as tropical storm Jeanne swept across the island of Hispaniola that Haiti shares with the Dominican Republic, authorities said.
The announcement was made after a government delegation led by Prime Minister Gerard Latortue toured northern parts of the country that have suffered from severe floods.
In the Dominican Republic at least seven deaths were blamed on Jeanne. President Leonel Fernandez visited the hardest-hit eastern part of the country on Saturday.
Jeanne moved north of the Bahamas early Sunday and was expected to stay out to sea for the next few days.
Meanwhile, far off in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, a new hurricane brewed, the fifth major hurricane of the season. Karl, located almost 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) west of Cape Verde Islands, was projected to arc northeast over the Atlantic, keeping well away from land.
