PERSUASION VISIT TO BRUSSELS
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will address the European Parliament (EP) on Thursday and will try to soften the air.
According to circles close to Erdogan, he will soften his stance, which is the opposite of his stance in Turkey that tensed Turkey-EU relations, but will not step back from the arrangement on adultery issue.
Erdogan will give the message that, ''Turkey brings together the civilizations, and Turkey prevents clash of civilizations.''
REPORT WAS POSITIVE ACCORDING TO VERHEUGEN
European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen met Turkey's permanent representative to the EU Oguz Demiralp upon the discussions on Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
Verheugen hinted that the report was positive.
Message of Verheugen, which said, ''we have prepared our report basing on the assumption that TCK was passed from the Parliament. Now, we should review the report again,'' was conveyed to Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul currently in Chicago.

ELVAN RANKS THE FIRST THIS TIME
Elvan Abeylegesse, who could not be successful in Olympic Games in Athens, ranked the first in Athletics-IAAF World Final in 5,000 meters. Elvan recorded 14:59.19.
ERDOGAN: ''HE SAID IT WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen, during his visit to Turkey between September 5th and 9th, told him that adultery issue would not be a problem for the Progress Report.
Speaking to German Deutsche Welle television, Erdogan said he did not get a direct message from the EU regarding consideration of adultery as crime in Turkish Penal Code (TCK).

European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen met Turkey's permanent representative to the EU Oguz Demiralp. Verheugen said, ''earlier Turkey's Progress Report was written as if Turkey has passed Turkish Penal Code (TCK). However, the report will be changed now.''
SADDAM'S GOLDEN FALCON STATUE FOUND IN ISTANBUL
Saddam Hussein's statue of golden falcon which was stolen from his palace in Baghdad was found in Istanbul while it was tried to be sold for 5 million dollars. The statue is made of solid golden and it is decorated with rubies and diamonds.

HAMIT BAYRAM CAPTURED IN ANKARA
Police arrested Hamit Bayram in Ankara early on Saturday.
Mustafa Bayram, a former parliamentarian, and his son Hecer Bayram had raided a traffic police station in Van, where Hamit Bayram, the other son of Mustafa Bayram has been held under a temporary custody warrant, and fled with younger Bayram, after a fight with police. Hamit Bayram was accused of drug trafficking.
BAYKAL: THEY MAKE A HISTORICAL MISTAKE
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said the government was under the pressure of various religious organizations, stressing that, ''prime minister can not work by submitting himself to those organizations, and by not evaluating the conditions of Turkey and the world.''
''Erdogan can not endure this if Turkey pays a cost for this,'' Baykal said.

RADIKAL (LEFT)

PARLIAMENT RECESSED
Parliament, which convened on September 14th to pass Turkish Penal Code (TCK) draft law, recessed again on Saturday.
Reactions of the European Union (EU) and calls from the Republican People's Party (CHP) did not work.
Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which called the Parliament for an extraordinary session to pass the new TCK, recessed the Parliament under the shadow of discussions on adultery.
HAPPY DAY OF TAL AFAR
The aid which Turkish Red Crescent sent, in the end reached to Tal Afar, which was exposed to U.S. operation in Iraq.
The aid, comprised of seven trucks and two ambulances, were escorted by U.S. tanks till 10 km to Tal Afar.
The first part of the aid is comprised of foodstuff, tents, blankets and medical equipment.

Turkish assistance convoy, which is comprised of 7 trucks of foodstuff, and medical team including doctors and nurses, has reached to Tal Afar city of Iraq under protection of Turkish soldiers. Turkmens welcomed our soldiers as ''thanks Turkey''.
10 MORE TURKISH CITIZENS KIDNAPPED IN IRAQ
Ten people who are working for a Turkish-American company were kidnapped in Iraq. Militants who took hostage ten people said that if the company does not withdraw from Iraq within 3 days, the hostages will be killed.

PROGRESS REPORT TO HAVE CONDITIONS DUE TO DELAYED TCK
European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen met Turkey's permanent representative to the EU Oguz Demiralp to discuss developments about Turkish Penal Code (TCK) draft. Verheugen conveyed uneasiness of the EU and said the recent situation will be reflected to Progress Report of Turkey which will be published on October 6th. He said that the report can be presented with conditions.

World record-breaker Elvan Abeylegesse ranked the first in Athletics-IAAF World Final in 5,000 meters in Monaco. Turkish national athlete Elvan who could not be successful in Olympic Games ranked the first this time.

TURKEY TO BE ''ENERGY BRIDGE''
Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said Turkey constitutes an energy bridge between the east and the west, stating that this role will become more definite after new projects take effect.
Addressing the Conference entitled, ''Caspian Sea Resources'' held in Cambridge University by Eurasia House, Guler said the recent researches revealed that oil consumption in Turkey will increase two times till the year 2020, and gas consumption will increase five times.
