ANKARA - ''If Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies try to introduce an amendment to criminalize adultery, we will leave the General Assembly and not join the debates,'' said Ali Topuz, Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Acting Chairman.
Topuz replied questions of reporters regarding discussions on adultery on Thursday.
Topuz said, ''we have received a proposal from AK Party to replace the word 'adultery' with 'sexual infidelity' and commuting the punishment to a fine. We are against every type of penalty arrangement within TCK under different names.''
Topuz said, ''such a proposal will mean that the consensus between the two parties is demolished. (If this happen) Our reaction will be strong. We will leave the general assembly.''
''Negotiations (on this matter) continue between two parties . We informed our leader Deniz Baykal about the situation. Our position is not changed,'' added Topuz.
