ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''everyone knows that all international human rights associations and the European Union (EU) announced that there is no systematic and planned torture in Turkey.''
When asked whether or not his party intends to launch a new initiative to make adultery a crime, Gul said that the Turkish parliament would make decision on such issues. ''We attach great importance to the protection of the family,'' he noted.
Reminded of press reports which said that EU Commission sent a delegation to examine allegations regarding systematic torture in Turkey, Gul said, ''there is not such a thing. Everyone knows that all international human rights associations and the EU announced that there is no systematic and planned torture in Turkey. There are official reports stating this.''
