LEFKOSA - Rauf Denktas, President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said, ''Cyprus issue is an issue completely based on rights and law.''
The New Judicial Year started in TRNC on Thursday.
Stating that Turkish Cypriot people were convinced to vote in favor of the (UN Secretary General Kofi) Annan's plan in the referendum held on April 24, 2004, Denktas said that they respected the will of the people.
Stressing that the Annan plan envisaged that if one of the sides did not approve the plan, it would no longer be valid, Denktas said, ''So, there is not a plan any longer.''
Denktas said that there was no equilibrium between sides in Cyprus, indicating that they insisted on equal sovereignty rights.
Denktas stated, ''Cyprus problem is a question completely based on rights and law,'' noting, that's why jurists should be interested in the issue.
On the other hand, Turkish Constitutional Court Chairman Mustafa Bumin said that there have been very important developments in Cyprus since 2003.
Bumin said that he examined the Annan plan and added that the plan could not be understood easily by everyone.
