MIAMI, Sept 18 (AFP) - Two people died Wednesday near Panama City, in northwestern Florida, in tornados spawned by Hurricane Ivan, a Bay County spokeswoman said.
"There's one confirmed death in Thomas Drive in Panama City Beach, and another one in Sandy Creek, Bay County," Catherine McNaught told AFP.
Local television reported that 80 homes were damaged by the tornados fueled by Ivan and showed footage of roofless buildings and damaged businesses.
The death in Sandy Creek occurred when a tornado knocked down two houses, the station said.
McNaught said that the identities of the dead or any other details could not be confirmed.
The tornados hit northwestern Florida just as the deadly Hurricane Ivan was slamming ashore from the Gulf of Mexico.
