British Airways Cancels 966 Flights In Next Three Months

LONDON (AFP) - British Airways said it planned to cancel almost 1,000 flights in the next three months.

Short- and long-haul destinations will be affected.

The airline was forced to cancel flights over the summer, causing delays for travellers, because of a shortage of check-in staff.

"There will be the cancellation of 966 flights from 42,000 over the next three months, from the beginning of September," a BA spokesman said Wednesday.

"The things we had a couple of weeks ago were extremely regrettable and in order to avoid those, we need more resources in different areas in case there are technical problems with aircraft," he added.

The cancellations will relieve pressure on BA's programme and allow the airline to provide customers with a more robust flight schedule for the rest of the year, it said.

"It is straightforward for us to rebook customers on to alternative services as the cancellations are on high-frequency routes," it added.
