LEFKOSA - Mehmet Ali Talat, Prime Minister of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said that when Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos gave up avoiding meetings, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan would undertake a new initiative in Cyprus.
Answering a question on the statement of Annan who said that there were no appropriate conditions for him to resume his mission of good will at that point, Talat said, ``Secretary General sees conditions prevailing (in the island). He observes Greek Cypriot administration`s and Papadopoulos`s negative attitudes.``
Talat indicated that UN Secretary General in his statement requested that Greek Cypriot side make clear its views on the Annan plan.
``When Greek Cypriot side makes clear its views, when Papadopoulos gives up avoiding meetings, Secretary General will undertake a new mission,`` he noted.
-REGULATIONS SHOULD NOT BE SEPARATED FROM EACH OTHER-
Answering another question, Talat recalled that the European Parliament (EP) delayed till October the vote on European Council regulation aiming to extend financial aid to TRNC, and said that ``this is not a loss.``
Stating that they insisted that direct trade regulation and financial regulation should not be separated from each other, Talat added that they expected that priority should be given to direct trade regulation.
