ANKARA - Turkish parliament adopted 19 more articles of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) draft on Wednesday.
Articles on punishments for crimes such as genocide and crimes against humanity were amended by a joint proposal of Justice & Development Party (AK Party) and Republican People's Party (CHP).
According to the articles of TCK which were adopted, those who commit genocide or homicide with premeditation will be sentenced to life imprisonment.
A person who carries out scientific experiment on a human being without his/her approval will be sentenced to imprisonment term from one to three years. Those who steal organ/organs from another person without his/her legal approval will be sentenced to five to nine years of imprisonment.
A public (government) official who causes a person to suffer physically or psychologically will be punished with imprisonment going from three to 12 years.
The parliament had adopted 75 articles of the TCK draft law yesterday (Tuesday).
According to the articles adopted in the General Assembly, the aim of the penal code is described as protecting rights and freedoms of individuals; preserving public order and security, as well as state, public health, environment and the stability. The new law will also prevent people from committing crimes.
