FORMULA TO ADULTERY
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) gave up its initiative which envisages imprisonment for those who commit ''adultery'' due to reactions of Turkish and foreign public opinions and Republican People's Party (CHP). AK Party and CHP had a surprising meeting at the parliament on Tuesday. The ruling and opposition parties agreed to present key amendments to the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) as a joint proposal.
PKK ATTACK ON TRAIN CARRYING MILITARY EQUIPMENT
Terrorist organization PKK/Kongra-Gel staged a bomb attack on a train, carrying military equipment. When a bomb which was planted on the railway between Kale and Kurt stations went off, the train travelling between Elazig and Tatvan derailed. Nobody was killed or injured.

AK PARTY AND CHP AGREE ON CIVILIZED SOLUTION
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) administration held a meeting with Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal and gave up its initiative of punishment for adultery. The solution will be searched for within the scope of civil law. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was defending the punishment for adultery with the reasons of protection of human honor, woman and family and to fulfill the requirements of conservatism.
TAL AFAR SIEGE ENDS
U.S. forces ended the siege which have been continuing in Tal Afar, a Turkmen city, in Iraq for 12 days. Witnesses said that U.S. soldiers started to allow entrances to the city. Associated Press (AP) correspondent noted that civilians who return to the city are controlled at check points and allowed to enter in the city. AP stressed that siege ended one day after the statements of Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul who said ''Ankara will stop cooperation with Washington if attacks continue.''

RECORD IN STOCK EXCHANGE
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and Republican People's Party (CHP) agreed not to make any amendment concerning adultery at the parliament which convened in an extraordinary session to debate the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) draft. After ruling and opposition parties reached consensus on the issue, the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) rose 645 points to 21,705.
WOMEN MARCH TO PARLIAMENT
Seven women's organizations and members of 80 women's associations throughout Turkey protested in the capital city of Ankara amendments planned to be made in the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). Turkish women, who convened in Ankara's Kizilay Plaza, marched to the parliament building, asking the legislators to withdraw the article reducing punishment in case of honor killings; ban virginity test and not to consider adultery as a crime.

BACKWARD STEP ON ADULTERY

Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul who had a meeting with Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said that they would only present key amendments to the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) as a proposal on which ruling and opposition parties agreed.
POLICE SEIZE 38 KG HEROIN IN ISTANBUL
Turkish police seized 38 kilograms of heroin in Istanbul. A statement of the Narcotics Department said that police get a tip-off on a drug trafficking network who would smuggle drugs abroad; staged an operation on a studio in Esenler neighborhood of Istanbul, and confiscated 38 kilograms of heroin.

FOREIGN MINISTRY: WE HAVE BIG SENSITIVITY IN TAL AFAR
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that if Tal Afar city in Iraq is harmed, Turkey will not cooperate with the United States in Iraq. When the United States asked the meaning of the statement, Gul replied, ''we would like to express the greatness of our sensitivity.''
CONSENSUS ON ADULTERY ISSUE WORKS FOR STOCK EXCHANGE
Ending of debates on adultery issue at Parliament worked for Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB). The stock exchange closed the session by rising 645 points to 21,705 yesterday when Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and Republican People's Party (CHP) have reached a consensus on the issue.

TRANSLATOR AYTULLAH RELEASED
Turkish translator Aytullah Gezmen who was kidnapped by insurgents on July 24 while he was working for Bilintur company in Iraq was released. Earlier in a videotape sent to Ihlas News Agency, Aytullah Gezmen who was speaking both in Turkish and Arabic said if Tepe and Bilintur companies do not withdraw from Iraq within 72 hours, he would be killed by insurgents.
ERDOGAN: LET'S EMBRACE TRNC TOGETHER
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed Muslim world in Tajikistan. He said, ''time has come to embrace Turkish Cypriots in economic, commercial, social and cultural areas.''

Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, acting on behalf of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed on adopting Turkish Penal Code (TCK) draft with consensus. Justice and Development Party (AK Party) which gave up including adultery in TCK decided to amend the articles that prevent freedom of expression and thought.
20 PERCENT OF PUBLIC NOT AWARE OF NEW TURKISH LIRA
20 percent of Turkish people are not aware that Turkey will start to use new currency unit as of 2005. Three of each ten people consider that a new currency unit is unnecessary.

ERDOGAN SAYS EMBARGO IMPOSED ON TRNC SHOULD BE LIFTED
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) countries to take steps which aim to lift embargo imposed on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Erdogan who attended the 8th Summit Meeting of ECO in Dushanbe, Tajikistan stated that there was an important energy potential in the region. He noted, ''Turkey is located in intersection point of energy corridors.''
ARINC QUALIFIES ISRAEL'S ATTITUDE AS ''IMPOLITE''
Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc received Palestine-Turkey interparliamentary friendship group members. Arinc said that he regrets that Israel did not allow two members of the friendship group to leave Ramallah (for Turkey), qualifying Israel's attitude as ''impolite''.
