Turkey To Send Humanitarian Aid To Darfur Region Of Sudan

ANKARA - Turkey would send humanitarian aid worth of 275,000 U.S. dollars to Darfur region of Sudan, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
A statement of the Foreign Ministry said that Turkey decided to send humanitarian assistance to Darfur to ease the tragedy in which thousands of people lost their lives so far.
The statement noted that the aid consisting of foodstuff, tents, medicine, and medical equipment, would be dispatched to Sudan tomorrow (Wednesday) by two cargo planes of Turkish Air Forces.
A group comprised of parliamentarians and officials of Prime Ministry's Directorate General of Emergency Management and the Turkish Red Crescent Association would hand over the aid to Sudanese officials, the statement said.
The statement pointed out that the aid would be distributed among local people in coordination of Sudanese officials, UN officials on the spot and Turkey's Embassy in Khartoum.
Turkish delegation would meet Sudanese parliament speaker, head of Sudanese-Turkish Interparliamentary Friendship Group, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Minister of External Trade and head of Sudanese Red Crescent, the statement added.
