Two Turkish Drivers Taken Hostage: Police

TIKRIT, Iraq, Sept 14 (AFP) - Two Turkish truck drivers were abducted on their way to the northern city of Kirkuk on Tuesday morning, an Iraqi police officer here told AFP.
The pair were taken at gunpoint at 7;)) am (0300 GMT) between Kirkuk and Tikrit, the hometown of jailed dictator Saddam Hussein, said Colonel Mizher Khalaf.
At least 100 foreigners have been taken hostage in Iraq since April as insurgents use kidnapping as a political tool to hobble US-led efforts to build a new democratic Iraq.
Turkish truck drivers, many of whom carry fuel and goods to US military bases, have been targeted by insurgents eager to cut off a major supply route into Iraq.
