JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Sept 13 (AFP) - The Gulf Cooperation Council denounced here Monday all acts of terror worldwide including the school hostage bloodbath in southern Russia and the bombing of the Australian embassy in Jakarta.
Gulf foreign ministers also condemned the kidnappings of two French journalists and two Italian aid workers as well as other abductions in Iraq following their two-day meeting in the Saudi commercial capital.
"Islam is based on justice and criminalizes attacks on innocent people," said a closing statement read out by the six-member bloc's secretary general, Abdulrahman al-Attiyah.
Ministers also hit out at Israeli threats to take their war against Palestinian militant groups to their offices in Damascus if necessary.
"Such threats escalate tension in the region, and do not serve international efforts to revive the (Middle East) peace process", Attiyah said.
Ministers took no clear position however on a UN Security Council resolution demanding an end to foreign interference in Lebanon, despite protests from both Beirut and Damascus against the French- and US-sponsored text.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, whose country holds the GCC's rotating presidency, told reporters that in principle the bloc supports "all UN resolutions."
