BAGHDAD, Sept 13 (AFP) - One person was killed and three others wounded in a US helicopter strike on a Baghdad commercial district, not far from the scene of heavy fighting between US troops and insurgents a day earlier, witnesses said.
A US helicopter fired a missile on the area early Monday afternoon, destroying a boarded-up clothes shop, said Ahmed Karim, who was wounded in the neck.
A dead man was sprawled in the street, his stomach ripped to shreds by shrapnel, while a child was wounded in the leg and an Egyptian worker hit in the face, AFP journalists said.
"We were at home and didn't dare go out because helicopters were circling overhead. We heard a large explosion nearby, but waited for the helicopters to leave before going outside," said Adnan Saadi, 50.
"We saw a destroyed shop and a young man dead in the street," he added.
Earlier, US troops patrolled nearby Haifa Street, where at least 13 people were killed and 55 wounded in clashes between insurgents and US soldiers the day before, heralding a strict night-time curfew.
