White House Falls Silent To Mark Third Anniversary Of September 11 Attacks

WASHINGTON, Sept 11 (AFP) - A hush fell over the White House here Saturday, as US President George W. Bush led a minute of silence to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the United States.
Joined by First Lady Laura Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, Bush placed his hand over his heart for the moment of silence and then, a short while later, walked solemnly back to the White House.
Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks with hijacked airliners on the twin World Trade Center towers in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington, and when another hijacked plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
