Grenada Death Toll In Ivan's Wake Rises To 17

MIAMI, Sept 10 (AFP) - The number of dead in Grenada, which was ravaged by Hurricane Ivan, has risen to 17, the Barbados-based Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency said in a statement released Friday.
The toll still may rise because CDERA has not had access to rural areas, its spokesman Terry Ally said.
About 60,000 of the spice island's 95,000 inhabitants are homeless after one of the worst hurricanes to hit the region in half a century ripped through the island, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said in Geneva.
Ninety percent of homes have been damaged while the island only has 47 shelters, it added in a statement.
The CDERA said power and water service remained unavailable in Grenada.
