Two Sadr Supporters Killed By Iraqi National Guard

BAGHDAD, Sept 10 (AFP) - Two supporters of rebel cleric Moqtada Sadr were shot dead and five wounded on Friday when Iraqi national guardsmen opened fire at a crowd walking home from main weekly prayers in Baghdad, a medic said.
Up to 100,000 people attended the main morning sermon at the Imam Mussa al-Kadum shrine in the district of Kadhimiya, as part of festivities to mark Saturday's anniversary of the death of the Shiite Islam's seventh imam.
Many of the worshippers came from Sadr's sprawling Baghdad Shiite slum bastion of Sadr City and were returning home, crossing a bridge, when young men spotted a national guard checkpoint and began throwing stones.
A doctor at the Al-Numan hospital said two people were killed from gunshot wounds and five others injured in the ensuing unrest.
