Supreme Court Of Appeals Chairmanship Board Decides To Open Preliminary Investigation For Allegations Against Ozkaya

ANKARA - Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals Chairmanship Board decided on Thursday to open preliminary investigation for allegations against the Chief Judge of the Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals Eraslan Ozkaya.
A brief statement was issued after the board meeting which lasted for 10 hours. Mater Kaban, the Supreme Court of Appeals Deputy Chief Judge, chaired the board meeting.
The statement said, ''Supreme Court of Appeals Chairmanship Board, after examining the documents and information in a file dated August 16th, 2004, by a majority of vote decided to open a preliminary investigation for allegations against Eraslan Ozkaya.''
The board charged a department director to carry out the preliminary investigation. The department director may ask for written testimony of Ozkaya if necessary.
The department director will later present the report to Supreme Court of Appeals Chairmanship Board.
The Chairmanship Board will assess the report of this member and may decide either to launch another investigation or to shelve the file.
The file which was sent to Supreme Court of Appeals Public Prosecutor's Office includes allegations that several initiatives were made about Alaattin Cakici's case heart in Supreme Court of Appeals and contacts were made with Ozkaya within this scope.
