TALLINN - ``The way adultery was taken up in Turkey was unfair, and an irresponsible behavior``, Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Thursday.
Gul, who answered questions of reporters aboard the plane on his way to Estonian capital of Tallinn, said that ``columnists could write whatever they wanted, and they were not uneasy about those articles. But, if these (articles) turn into a campaign, and a dictation, this will be unjust.``
``The way the press was handling the matter was very wrong``, Gul stated.
Gul said that it was announced for the first time the previous day that EU would start negotiations with Turkey without delay and that EU did not have any other demands from Turkey.
Gul stated that he did not discuss adultery question with Commissioner Guenter Verheugen, as it was mentioned in the press.
Complaining that the European newspapers were reflecting the discussions on adultery in Turkey as some Turkish newspapers did, Gul said, ``the way the adultery is taken up, and its presentation differently than it is, is unfair, and an irresponsible behavior.``
Gul drew attention that every country had characteristics peculiar to itself, and stated that new arrangement regarding adultery was related with protection of women as PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
``It is always the woman who is betrayed,`` Gul asserted.
Noting that the matter would be discussed at the parliament, Gul said that the will of people would be the determinant factor regarding this question since the parliament represented the entire nation.
