DUBAI, Sept 9 (AFP) - Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri claimed that the "mujahedeen" enjoy popular support in Afghanistan, in a clip from a videotape broadcast Thursday night by Al-Jazeera television.
In the tape, shown two days before the third anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, Zawahiri said "all of the east and south of Afghanistan has become territory open to the mujahedeen," or militants who support the group headed by Osama bin Laden.
