Deputy Governor Of Volatile Iraqi Province Kidnapped: Official

BAGHDAD, Sept 8 (AFP) - The deputy governor of Iraq's volatile Al-Anbar province was kidnapped from his home by gunmen who shot his son in the chest, the interior ministry said Wednesday.
Assailants barged into Basem Mohammed Menajid's home at noon (0800 GMT), said ministry spokesman Colonel Adnan Abdul Rahman.
"The attackers exchanged fire with his bodyguards. I am certain his son was shot in the chest and taken to hospital. I think two of his bodyguards were injured," said Rahman.
"The deputy governor was taken away and no one has heard of him since," he added.
Last month, Abdel Karim Berges resigned as governor after three of his sons were released by kidnappers after a week in captivity on condition he quit.
Ramadi is the main city in the mainly Sunni Muslim province, which also includes the flashpoint city of Fallujah where US troops come under persistent attack.
