Czech Military Unit To Leave Afghanistan

PRAGUE, Sept 8 (AFP) - One hundred Czech soldiers serving in Afghanistan under the US-led international military operation are to be repatriated this month, a Czech ministry of defence spokesman said Wednesday.
The soldiers, who have been serving in the country on a six-month mission, will return between September 15 and 20, Andrej Cirtek said.
No replacement is currently anticipated.
Much of the contingent is made up of an elite forces unit specially geared towards the fight against terrorism.
Under American command, the Czechs participated in efforts to track down armed groups of Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters in the Afghan mountains.
The unit's deployment marked the Czechs' first direct involvement in a combat operation since World War Two.
