Quake Hits Northwest China, No Casualties Reported

BEIJING, Sept 7 (AFP) - Northwest China was rattled by an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale Tuesday evening but no injuries were reported, state media said.
The tremor hit Minxian county in Gansu province at 8:15 pm (1615 GMT) and was centred about 150 kilometres (93 miles) south of the provincial capital Lanzhou City, Xinhua news agency reported.
The situation was still under investigation but no casualties had so far been reported, Xinhua said, quoting the China Seismological Bureau.
In November last year a quake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the same area. One child was killed and 30 people injured then.
About one in five homes, most of which were made of earth and wood, were destroyed in the earlier quake, Xinhua said.
