KABAN: ''ADMINISTRATION CANNOT CHANGE COURT DECISIONS THROUGH LEGISLATIVE OR EXECUTIVE BODIES''
ANKARA - Supreme Court of Appeals First Deputy Chief Judge Mater Kaban said that ''administration could not change court decisions through legislative or executive bodies'', adding that ''it could not delay those decisions to be executed, either''.
A ceremony was held in Ankara to mark the opening of 2004-2005 Judicial Year on Monday.
President of the Republic Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Constitutional Court Chairman Mustafa Bumin, Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal, Council of State President Ender Cetinkaya, Government Accounting Bureau Chairman Mehmet Damar, ministers, judges and other officials attended the ceremony.
Kaban said that people should trust and respect judiciary, noting that justice was a sacred value which could not bear even the smallest stain.
''The most distinctive mark of modern legal state was that it should be bound by rules of law included in national and international documents'', Kaban noted.
Stating that people should comply with judiciary decisions, Kaban said that disobedience to those decisions would cause violation of human rights, weaken confidence in the state and justice itself.
Kaban after drawing attention to press reports alleging that confidence in judiciary weakened, added that judiciary personnel felt deep sorrow over these reports. He added that unjust criticisms against judiciary could cause negative results.
