HATAY/MERSIN - Renay International Transportation Company, which Turkish truck driver Mithat Civi worked for, decided to withdraw from Iraq on Sunday.
The Islamic Resistance Movement, Nu'man Brigades earlier kidnapped Civi and released a videotape asking the company to withdraw from Iraq within 48 hours.
Edip Rende, one of the shareholders of the Company, held a news conference and said that they evaluated all risks and decided to withdraw from Iraq for release of Civi and thus they have accepted the demand of the insurgents.
Rende said, ''Mithat Civi who was taken hostage in Iraq, is our driver. We were asked to end our activities in Iraq for release of Civi. We announce that we stopped our activities in Iraq. We hope our driver returns to our country soon and reaches to his family.''
Rende also asked for the help of Turkish government for release of Civi.
Company officials said that their statement for stopping activities in Iraq will be broadcast in Al Arabiya TV at 03.00 p.m.
