WHAT HAPPENED TO TURKISH GIRL ALANA?
First news reports were received saying that eight-year old Turkish girl Alana Dogan, who was taken hostage in a school in North Ossetia, was injured. But later it was reported that her father Seyfi Dogan was looking for his daughter Alana in the hospital. No news could be obtained from Dogan family afterwards. Fate of the little girl is still not known yet.
BABACAN: WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO HEAR ABOUT DECISION OF EU
State Minister Ali Babacan said Turkey was looking forward to hear about the decision that the European Union (EU) Commission would take about Turkey's EU bid, and noted, ''we have positive expectations. Coming days are very important for Turkey. Another important matter is direct foreign investments.''
Noting that 1.8 billion U.S. dollars of direct foreign capital had flowed in Turkey in the first seven months of this year, Babacan said that an additional 400 million U.S. dollars of foreign capital flowed in Turkey in July.
Babacan pointed out that more direct foreign capital inflow was recorded in Turkey thanks to economic and political stability, and the positive measures taken by the government in order to rehabilitate the investment environment.

BESPARMAK VILLAGE SOLD ACRE BY ACRE
Foreigners' interest in Turkish lands in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is increasing after the referendum in Cyprus on April 24. Besparmak village in Girne draws the most attention. Only 25 acres of Turkish land remained in the village. Nearly 256 acres of the land was sold to foreigners until now.
ERDOGAN: RUSSIA DID RIGHT
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan defended the operation of Russian forces during the hostage crisis in North Ossetia and he said, ''bargaining with terrorists cannot be made. I appreciated with Russia's attitude.''
ALANA INJURED DURING RUSSIAN OPERATION
Turkish citizen Alana Dogan who was also taken hostage in the school in North Ossetia was rescued only having injuries during the Russian operation. However, Alana's family have not reached her yet and they are searching for her in every hospital.

ERDOGAN: CURRENT ACCOUNT TO BE OVERCOME TILL THE END OF 2005
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who spoke in private ATV channel on Friday evening, replied to the concerns of economists about current account deficit, and stressed that, ''it will be overcome at the end of 2005.''
Erdogan said single digit inflation figures will be reached in 2005.
Replying to the question about current account deficit, Erdogan said many objective economists discussed how Turkey attached importance to financial discipline and how carefully it implemented economic program.
GUL: ADULTERY IS NOT ON THE AGENDA OF EU
Asked whether or not discussions about adultery were discussed in relations with the European Union (EU), Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''no such issue is on the agenda of EU foreign ministers meeting.''

VERHEUGEN DUE IN TURKEY
EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen will have meetings in southeastern Diyarbakir province.
Greater City Municipality issued a statement and said Verheugen would visit Diyarbakir on September 6th within the scope of his visit to Turkey and meet Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir.
NATO'S ''NAM04'' EXERCISE TO TAKE PLACE IN KONYA
Turkey will for the first time host NATO Air Meet-04 (NAM04) exercise.
Air Forces Command issued a written statement and said the exercise, which takes place rotationally in north and south region, will be held between September 4 and 16, 2004.
Around 1,500 military personnel from 18 countries arrived in central Anatolian Konya province for NATO Air Meet (NAM-04) exercises to start on Saturday, military sources said.

EU: PUNISHMENT TO ADULTERY DETERIORATES TURKEY'S IMAGE
Jean Christopher Flori, spokesman of the European Union (EU) Commissioner for enlargement Guenter Verheugen, said that Turkey would be harmed with the draft which envisions punishment to adultery. Noting that it is a critical period in EU-Turkey relations, Flori said that such a law can deteriorate a country's image in such a period.
GUL: THERE ARE SENSITIVITIES PECULIAR TO TURKEY
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that the article on adultery is not clear yet and added, ''we have taken modern countries as example. However, there can be sensitivities which are peculiar to Turkey.''

ERDOGAN: JOINT FIGHT AGAINST INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM NECESSARY
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that a joint platform was not established in fight against terrorism. He said that people do not fight against terrorism if it does not hit them.
HELICOPTER CRASHES
A helicopter which was hired to put out forest fires crashed down near Milas town of Aegean Mugla province. Five crew members died.
TURKISH GIRL RESCUED
Turkish citizen Alana Dogan, whose mother and sister were earlier released from the school in North Ossetia, was reported to be rescued in Russian operation. However, Alana was injured.

ERDOGAN: TERRORISM DOES NOT HAVE RELIGION OR NATION
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while evaluating the ''hostage taking'' in a school in Russia, said, ''he could not find expressions to explain the situation of families of defenseless children.''
Erdogan said, ''terrorism does not have religion, race or nation,'' and stressed the importance of forming an international joint platform against international terrorism.
